Position Summary
The Director of Member Engagement & Development leads the Bryan County Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to engage and retain current members, recruit new members, and develop sponsorships and collaborative partnerships. The Director articulates the value of active Chamber membership, builds relationships throughout the business community, and identifies opportunities that strengthen the Chamber’s relevance, reach, and financial sustainability.
This is a highly visible, relationship-driven position that requires regular attendance at Chamber and community events, proactive outreach to businesses, and thoughtful identification of opportunities where Chamber involvement can add value. The successful candidate will work effectively as part of a small, fast-moving team while independently managing core responsibilities and multiple priorities. Success is demonstrated by strengthening the Chamber’s relevance and visibility; increasing member engagement, retention, membership, and non-dues revenue; and building sustainable relationships with members, partners, community leaders, and public officials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Member Engagement & Retention- Develop and manage a structured, personalized onboarding and orientation process for new members.
- Maintain consistent, documented communication with current members throughout the membership lifecycle.
- Identify members who are not fully using Chamber benefits, resources, and engagement opportunities, and connect them with relevant offerings.
- Conduct proactive outreach to members approaching renewal and address the concerns of members at risk of not renewing
- Solicit constructive member feedback, communicate actionable themes to Chamber leadership, and follow up with members as appropriate
- Evaluate sponsorship opportunities and match them with organizations whose goals align with the opportunity
- Develop relationships with corporate partners, industry leaders, and major employers to identify meaningful collaboration and funding opportunities
- Maintain regular communication with sponsors and partners to ensure that commitments are fulfilled and mutual value is achieved
- Analyze and adapt sponsorship and partnership offerings to support the goals of the Chamber and participating organizations
Membership Growth & Development
- Develop and execute a year-round membership growth strategy
- Identify and recruit prospective Chamber members throughout Bryan County
- Maintain an active prospect pipeline and conduct timely, consistent follow-up
- Conduct regular business visits and face-to-face outreach, including engagement with businesses entering the community
- Partner with the President & CEO to strengthen membership levels, benefits, pricing, and value
- Identify opportunities to increase membership and non-dues revenue
Events & Community Engagement
- Maintain a visible, engaged presence at Chamber events, ribbon cuttings, networking functions, community activities, and business meetings
- Follow up with members and community leaders to encourage event and meeting participation
- Welcome prospective and new members at events and connect them with relevant members, community leaders, and Chamber staff
- Collaborate with Chamber staff, partners, and volunteers to develop and support programs such as Young Leaders, Leadership Bryan, and work-based learning activities with Bryan County Schools
Membership Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate member, prospect, contact, communication, and engagement records in the Chamber’s CRM and membership systems
- Track and report membership growth, renewals, retention, sponsorships, engagement, pipeline activity, and related revenue to Chamber staff and the Board of Directors
- Analyze membership data to identify trends and recommend proactive adjustments in collaboration with Chamber staff and volunteers
- Develop and engage the Chamber Ambassador program to support member connections and Chamber participation
Performance Expectations
Performance will be evaluated using measurable results that may include:
- Member engagement, communication, and participation
- Membership retention, growth, and revenue
- Sponsorship and partnership development and revenue
- Execution of prospect engagement, new-member onboarding, orientation, and pipeline strategies.
- Accuracy and completeness of membership and prospect data in the CRM
Qualifications
- Relevant experience in business development, sales, account management, membership development, community relations, hospitality, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with business owners, community members, corporate partners, and public officials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages to varied audiences and communication channels
- Strong organizational, planning, and follow-through skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and execute plans tied to relevant goals and performance measures
- Proficiency with CRM or membership-management systems, email and marketing platforms, and Microsoft 365 or comparable business software.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout Bryan County and the surrounding region for business meetings, events, and member outreach
- A degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Working knowledge of Bryan County and the regional business community is preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent travel to off-site meetings, member businesses, and community events throughout Bryan County and the surrounding region, as well as periodic work outside traditional business hours, including evenings, weekends, and special events. The employee must be able to meet the position’s travel requirements. The role also requires occasional physical activity associated with setting up and breaking down office, event, and marketing equipment, including the ability to safely pick up, carry and move objects up to 30lbs as part of regular work duties.

- Maintain professional conduct and represent the Chamber’s mission, values, and interests in interactions with members, partners, volunteers, public officials, and the community.
- Protect confidential member, business, employee, sponsor, and organizational information.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, planning, and performance-management activities as required.
