🔧 What You'll Do

You’ll train and work directly alongside experienced Lead and Line Technicians, learning the ropes — and the wires — through a structured progression of hands-on fieldwork.

Apprentice III – Starting Your Climb

  • Learn the basics of overhead and underground (URD) construction
  • Assist with line and facility construction
  • Load/unload poles, transformers, and materials
  • Maintain orderly storage of tools and materials on your vehicle
  • Respond to after-hours calls and emergencies
  • Understand job hazards (falls, electric shock, traffic, falling objects) and use safety equipment
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Apprentice II – Building on Experience

(All of the above, plus:)

  • Perform construction/maintenance tasks under supervision of a Journeyman Line Technician
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions
  • Operate and maintain equipment like hydraulic booms, trenchers, backhoes
  • Assist with pole hauling, framing, and setting
  • Maintain assigned trucks and tools
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

Apprentice I – Preparing for the Next Level

(All of the above, plus:)

  • Work on energized and de-energized lines under supervision
  • Patrol lines and report any damaged or unsafe components
  • Act as groundsman, equipment operator, and lineman
  • Ensure tools, trucks, and equipment are used properly and in good condition
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
    • High school diploma or GED (required for all levels)
    • Valid CDL (required for all levels)
    • Forklift certification (required for Apprentice I; or willing to obtain)
    • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in all weather
    • Positive attitude and strong team mindset
    • Availability for overtime, non-standard hours, and emergency response

    Apprentice III – New to the Field?

    • No experience required
    • Learn the basics: safety, equipment, line work
    • CDL required
  • Apprentice II – Gaining Experience?

    • 3+ years of experience in line work preferred
    • Must have completed Apprentice III
    • CDL required
  • Apprentice I – Ready for More?

    • 3+ years of experience in overhead/underground line work preferred
    • Must have completed Apprentice III & II
    • CDL and forklift certification required
